Italy will built a new aerospace test facility in Sardinia

On Wednesday 29 January at Villa Devoto, Cagliari was presented the project “Space Propulsion Test Facility (S.P.T.F).

The project is founded by Avio Group s.p.a. in collaboration with the Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico (M.I.S.E) and the Regione Autonoma della Sardegna.

The S.P.T.F project will include a test bed for Liquid-propellant engines (L.R.E. Liquid Rocket Engines) and a specialized production plant in carbon-carbon materials (C-C).

L.R.E

L.R.E is expected to provide support for the development and certification for space engine and liquid propulsion components. The engines will be fed with cryogenic propellant with high technological content and innovation.

C-C production plant

The C-C production plant will manufacture components used within the propulsion nozzles of solid propellant engines.

The project will include a surface of over 66.000 m2 inside the Poligono Sperimentale e di Addestramento Interforze of Salto di Quirra (Interfoces Experimental and Training Range – PISQ), the largest military range in Italy.
