Japan will send its own ships to independently patrol the Strait of Hormuz.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, at the meeting of the National Security Council (NSC), instructed the Government to consider sending the Self-Defense Forces to the area around the Strait of Hormuz in an autonomous form, and the Government announced that it was want to have the specific and necessary measures.

Japan will not participate in the security initiatives that the United States is calling for to be prepared against Iran, which is suspected of having planned against tankers sailing in the Strait of Hormuz, but will play an international role collecting information and monitoring the situation with its own naval and air units.
