The last two European Multi Mission Frigate (FREMM) built by Fincantieri, initially planned for the Italian Navy, will go to the Egyptian Navy.
The sale has been concluded after the conversation between the Prime Minister of Italy Giuseppe Conte and the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
The details of the agreement will be disclosed in the following days but it is certainly an important order for Fincantieri which could give way to other naval units if not even contracts for other armed forces.
As reported by some rumors the requests of the Ministry of Defense could include other four frigates, twenty patrol ships, twenty four Eurofighter Typhoon and twenty four Leonardo M-346. The sale of FREMMs is certainly a step forward in this direction.
The two FREMM involved is this sale are the Spartaco Schergat (F 598) and Emilio Bianchi (F 589). Both built in multi-role configuration contrary to the Tahya Mistr (french FREMM already in service in Egyptian Navy) which is an ASW (Anti-Submarine Warfare) platform.
