The new LHD of the Italian Navy, “Nave Trieste”, made its first outing at sea off the shores of La Spezia on August 13, 2021.
The unit, launched in Castellammare di Stabia on 25 May 2019, reached the Muggiano Dockyard in January 2020 for the fitting out works.
Upon her entry into service, expected around 2022, it will be the largest ship in the Navy in terms of length and displacement, thus replacing the Cavour aircraft carrier
The Fincantieri workers, the companies involved in the program as well as the Italian Navy team that has been following the project since its inception have dealt briskly despite the restrictions due to Covid-19 and not least the scorching heat of the last few days to make the first exit at sea.
An important step for the program that opens the way, albeit still long, towards delivery to MM and subsequently obtaining IOC and FOC.
